Over the last couple of years, there have been several major data loss incidents. Data loss is a problem that is faced by many individuals, businesses and organisations worldwide.
Recently, two NHS trusts have suffered data loss. In one of the cases, a laptop that was carrying unencrypted data of about 5,000 patients was stolen from the premises of Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University trust, in South Wales.
According to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the computer was stolen by an opportunistic thief when the office was left unlocked. To improve the security of data in the near future, an agreement was signed by the trust to encrypt the data.
In another case, a memory stick that contained unencrypted personal information about staff and patients was lost by the Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys foundation trust.
After these incidents, the organisation has decided to use encryption techniques to safeguard valuable information. An online data backup service can prove to be extremely beneficial at such times. With the special encryption technique that it uses, one can be assured about security of data.

After losing important data, an NHS trust was forced to apologise. The health employee responsible for the data loss had actually lost the memory stick which had information about 6,000 prison patients. In the investigation it was found that the password through which the data inside the memory stick could be accessed was also attached with the memory stick.
The NHS has withdrawn all the memory sticks of workers which are used to store important information as a safety measure to avoid repetition of such unfortunate events.
Many private commercial sectors have to deal with information about innumerable people and it is their responsibility to keep the data safe. Many business organisations can be forced to close down if such important data is lost by them.
The easiest and smartest way to avoid such data loss is by using online data backup. Online data backup is a method of protecting your data via internet. It keeps your data secure in the event of accidents and thefts. Online data backup can be accessed anytime and from anywhere. Moreover, it is cheaper than conventional forms of backup and hence has become immensely popular.

Data leakage is very unwelcome for any firm, company or organisation. Whether it is small scale or large scale, businesses all need to protect their data to survive. Loss of a memory stick is one of the most common reasons for loss of data.
A survey conducted by data security firm Credant Technologies found that in the previous year people had left 9,000 USB sticks in their pockets while giving their clothes to local dry cleaners to be washed.
This survey was carried out throughout the UK to gauge the ease and frequency with which mobile devices like memory sticks are forgotten or lost in strange places.
In London, Credant conducted a similar survey amongst taxi drivers and found that in every six months 6,193 devices, such as memory sticks, iPods and laptops were left behind in cabs.
Chief marketing officer and vice president at Credant, Michael Callahan said that they conducted this survey to ensure people that it is easy to lose data.
People must protect valuable and sensitive data or information with encryption so that their data is protected from getting into the wrong hands. Encrypted data can be accessible only if you enter the password.
A better and smarter way to prevent data loss incidents is by using online data backup and online data storage.

Often in government agencies, responsible officers store important data in laptops, memory sticks and hard discs, thinking that these traditional methods of storing data are foolproof and cannot be lost.
Recently it has been reported that the Home Office has had data protection issues since one of its employees lost a memory stick which contained personal details of over 88,000 prisoners who are still serving time.
The ministry is terrified by this error as the prisoners might fight the government legally and demand a monetary compensation. In the past such data loss has been reported due to various reasons, one of which is theft.
Due to such repeated cases of data loss the UK government has been severely criticised. This time the Home Office has been asked by the Information Commissioner’s Office to sign an official undertaking for improving its procedures for protecting data.
Government agencies can still somehow withstand such data loss but data loss in the commercial sector can be immensely devastating and can completely flush away business. The only reliable way to avoid data loss is to maintain an online data backup which has several advantages.
Online data backup secures data against hackers and cannot be stolen. It is also a hassle free system. Online data backup is the smartest and most economic way to keep your data safe.

Some major data loss incidents throughout the public sector have been recently covered by the media. This data loss could have been avoided if they had used an encrypted way of storing data.
Technically they have lost the data; however, if the data would have been encrypted then it would have been invaluable to someone else. An encrypted way of storing data is safe and protects the public if the data is lost or stolen.
The government has procedures in place to make sure data is more expertly protected. These policies are useful but fall short in educating the individuals who need to use them. In short, the government needs to educate their people about the consequences of losing private data.
The basic necessity for data protection is encryption. Encrypted data can only be accessed through the use of a password. Online data backup makes use of this feature to protect data. The data itself is stored in an offsite location for added security.
Data is the base of each and every company. All organisations must have online data backup to retain their data as loss of data is probably the end of the company.

In most computer backup procedures, there is one major problem. All the important data that is backed up is usually stored at the same place. However, within seconds, all the important data that you have stored can be lost. There are several reasons for data loss like device failure, floods, human error or a computer virus.
This gives rise to the need for having a reliable solution. Online data backup is the best solution that is presently available to safeguard your data. This service allows you to save your important data or the entire content that you have in your computer onto a hard drive. In this way, if any incident like theft or a fire occurs, you will still have your data safe.
With an online data backup service, all your important data is stored in the server which is at a remote location. While transferring your computer data to the remote server, special encryption methods are used and thus your data remains safe. You will also be provided with a user ID and password to access your data. To get the best results out of online data backup, it is recommended that you back up your data on a daily basis.
Another important advantage of online data backup is that it is very simple to use to upload your files to the remote server. Unlike traditional storage devices, recovering your data from an online data backup server is very fast.

Since the data loss incident where HM Revenue and Customs admitted to losing information about 25 million child benefit records, about 100 organisations have reported data breaches. Richard Thomas, the Information Commissioner revealed that data breaches were reported from three different sectors. Four were from charity and voluntary agencies, twenty eight from the private sector and 62 from the public sector.
While talking about the increasing number of data breaches, Thomas said that the figures were alarming and disappointing. He also said that these incidents were unacceptable and that banks, government and other organisations needed to be more careful while dealing with personal information about people. The reported data breaches included lost and stolen memory sticks, laptops and discs – all of which were unencrypted.
All through last year, the Information Commissioner kept requesting those handling vital information to use better information protection methods like online data backups and offsite data backups. These precautions ensure that all the data is encrypted and well protected so that no damage can take place should the information get lost or stolen. Online data backups are one of the best ways to ensure business continuity and can definitely assure customers and clients that their personal information is being kept safe and secure at all times.

Do you use a computer at your home or office? Does your computer have some or other important data stored on it? Do you backup your data regularly? If not, then it means that you are probably not aware of data loss. In recent times, there have been many data loss incidents which have ruined many businesses.
Data loss incidents can actually cause a lot of headaches, especially if you lose your precious photos, personal and business information, files, documents etc. Data loss can be due to many reasons like hard disk failure, system failure, natural disasters etc. Therefore, there is a serious need for everyone to back up their data effectively.
For years people have been using traditional devices like CDs, DVDs, portable hard drives, USB and memory sticks etc. However, they are not completely reliable as these devices do not work efficiently. Many times the optical drives cannot read the data that is stored in the CDs and DVDs. USB sticks and portable hard drives at times do not get connected.
Thus, to overcome such circumstances, online data backup was introduced. It is the safest way to store and safeguard your vital data. Online data backup stores your data on the server which is located at a remote location. This method is also called remote data backup. Using online data backup you can store your entire hard disk contents on the online data backup company’s server.

In a survey that was conducted by PriceWaterhouseCoopers, it was recorded that more than half of the financial service firms had no clue as to where the personal information about their customers was stored. Although these firms are handling extremely sensitive information of thousands of people, they still seem to have no proper system where all the information is collected and stored.
More than 7,000 organisations were surveyed of which 553 were public sector bodies and 665 were financial service companies. Of these, more than 50% of companies had no specific or secure methods for treating sensitive information. With the alarming increase in data loss and data breach incidents, companies and agencies are being persuaded to get better methods of storing data.
A recommended way of storing data and keeping it safe is by using online data backups. This method for storing data has been proved to be the most secure way of keeping information. Online data backups require users to download the software and regular backups ensure that data which is getting updated constantly is well protected. A password and encryption system for the data ensures great protection of sensitive information, even from the backup company. Retrieving data is relatively simple and can be done from anywhere.

Data loss is significant to everyone and this is because a lot of hard work is put into generating the indispensable data. Data within the computer is vulnerable, and no matter how hard one tries there are chances of losing it. Sometimes, the loss of data is so sudden that there is no hope of recovering it. Therefore, to avoid such a situation, it is extremely important to have a backup system that can recover the valuable data in extreme circumstances.
Online backup technology is a sophisticated way of recovering data loss and the beauty of this method is that as one writes, data gets saved. Data loss can happen at any time, which is why one needs to be prepared in advance with online backup technology. Data within the computer can be stored in CD, DVD, hard drive or other tapes. However, all of these types of media can get lost or stolen, making them an unreliable source.
The answer to all these problems is online backup technology. It is a reliable and cost-effective method. Even in the worst case scenario of data loss like the theft of a laptop, data can be recovered with the help of online backup technology. Therefore, it will be foolish to wait for a data disaster to happen rather than availing the service of online backup.
