Under Document & File Safes
Quite often, when people think of safes, the most common image that comes to the mind is of a large, reinforced, rectangular metal box for placing valuable belongings and important documents. Although these large safes are still available, there are many other types of safes for securing your valuables at home or the office.
For most homes, a wide selection of small home safes, perfect for protecting cash, jewellery and other important documents, are available. These home safes are ideal for securely storing passports, legal documents, insurance papers etc. Home safes are available with electronic keypad and key locking options. Home safes are also available with fire-resistance and for keeping laptops.
One clever type of security safe is the under floor safe. These safes are installed in the floor and can easily be concealed under a carpet or rug. They come with a combination of key and electronic keypad locking and used in both new and existing homes. Underfloor safes are the best security safes for protecting your precious belongings from burglars.
With an increase in crime rates, it is very important to ensure the security of your important documents and valuables. Security safes are available in different sizes and should be selected depending on the type of items that need protection.

An Ipswich family whose home was burgled on New Year’s Eve, made an earnest plea to the burglars to return their irreplaceable memories.
The robbery was committed at the Shrubland Avenue house of Kyle Miller and partner Louise Dyer, who lost nearly all the pictures they had of their 16-month-old daughter. Mr. Miller’s mother was also distraught since the thieves also stole the last day’s recorded footage of her beloved dog.
The stolen items included a Canon DVD recorder, Toshiba laptop, and a mobile phone and the total cash amount of electronic equipment stolen during the burglary was £2,000.
The family is devastated at the loss of their electrical equipment, as it contained many special and irreplaceable family memories and hundreds of pictures. They have urged the perpetrators to return the family’s memories and photos, as they would be worthless to anyone else.
To secure and protect your important documents and valuables, it is essential to have a security safe at home. Security safes offer complete protection and security to your precious irreplaceable items like jewellery in the event of robberies and problems like fires or flood. They are available in a variety of shapes and sizes with variable security features to protect your belongings.

Under Data Safe
In one of the most recent cases of data loss, it was found that a memory stick which contained patient information of more than 6,000 prisoners of Her Majesty’s Prison was lost by a worker of the Central Lancashire Primary Care Trust. It was also revealed that the missing memory stick had an attached note containing the password.
A spokesperson from the Trust commented on the situation and apologised for the unfortunate event saying that the matter was being handled very seriously and an investigation would be carried out. The memory stick held data including surnames, age, appointment times, prison numbers, cell locations and ailments such as asthma, diabetes and mental health problems. The spokesperson claimed that action was being taken to prevent something like this happening again.
Time and again, agencies and companies are being asked to store and protect vital data. Online data backups are readily available, and using them will ensure that important data is encrypted and protected from being lost. Online data backup can reduce data breaches and ensure that important information regarding people’s lives is protected efficiently.

Safes have been used from time immemorial by kings and the common man. Safes are the best way to keep your valuable possessions safe and secure. Present day safes are available in so many types and varieties that they not only protect your valuable goods from burglars but also natural hazards like fire or flood.
Currently, the world is suffering from a great economic crisis. In these times it is never safe to invest your valuable savings and hard earned money in the market. The best way to deal with the situation is to keep your cash in your home inside your safe. However in present circumstances, the value of money can also fluctuate.
Thus the best way to keep your cash safe is to convert it into a solid asset. This can be done by investing in gold or diamonds or by buying valuable assets. For the safekeeping of these assets, having a safe is essential.
The sale of safes has gone up by 30% in the whole of Europe in the past few months. The reasons behind this are the deteriorating market and increasing incidences of burglary. In the past few months, theft and break-ins have increased so much that the police have urged the citizens to be very careful in locking their doors and windows and has asked them to be very cautious.
Under such circumstances buying a strong safe and either bolting it to the floor or hiding it at an undetectable place inside your home is essential.

How is the fire resistance of fire data safes measured?
There are three types of rigorous tests performed on fire-proof data safes to measure their fire resistance.
The Fire Endurance Test involves exposing the safes to furnace temperatures during a one hour test period of 925°C, a two hour test period of 1010°C and a three hour test period of 1105°C. The safes are locked and placed in a furnace, while thermocouples fixed to the internal surfaces of the safe record any rise in temperature. Once cooled, the safe is examined for usability.
The Explosion Hazard Test simulates the safe being suddenly exposed to superheated temperatures that could cause an explosion. The safe is locked and placed into a furnace preheated to 1095°C. This temperature is maintained for the test period and if no explosion results, the unit is allowed to cool.
The Fire Drop Test measures the strength of the safe and its ability to withstand the effect of falling through a burning and collapsing building. The safe is locked and placed into a furnace preheated to 925°C. This temperature is maintained for 30 minutes before the safe is hoisted to a height of 10 metres and dropped on to a bed of rubble. The safe is then placed back in the furnace upside down for a further 30 minutes.
A fire data safe doesn’t only protect your media from fire, however. Plastic-based materials require protection from humidity as well as from high temperatures. A fire data safe offers protection against rising humidity levels and from other dangers like magnetic contamination, dust and smoke which are all potentially damaging for electronic equipment and disks.
How to choose a fire data safe
When choosing a fire data safe or fire data cabinet you need to pay extra attention to the internal dimensions to ensure that you choose a safe with enough capacity to meet your needs. Because of the demands of insulation, this type of safe is often smaller inside than you would expect when given the external dimensions.
To choose a fire data safe, you need to know:
1. How large the safe needs to be in order to meet your needs, paying particular attention to the internal dimensions.
2. How much fire protection is affordable within your budget.
3. Whether you need a safe with a “cash rating”.
Many fire data safes cannot be fixed or bolted down and so do not have “cash ratings.” Those that do have cash ratings offer the same protection from theft as high-security safes. A cash rating gives you a good indication of how secure the safe in question is, although this rating applies only if you have installed it correctly and according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
A cash rating of £1,000 means that you can store up to £1,000 or up to £10,000 worth of valuables. This means that your insurance company should insure £1,000 in cash overnight. You always multiply the cash rating by 10 when you are storing jewellery or other non-cash items. A cash rating of £5,000 would therefore allow you to store up to £5,000 in cash or £50,000 in valuables. It is important to check with your insurance company if you have a specific high-value item that you wish to store, as they may require you’re safe to have a higher cash rating than the actual cost of the item.

At present due to the current economic climate; people across the world are panicking and trying to hold on to what they have left. Thus the sale of safes are going up everywhere in the world. In UK alone the sale of safes has gone up by 30% says Bruce Fairchild who owns a safes company in Tuscan.
He adds that many people are coming to his store and asking for the best safes since they want to keep their cash safe. Gavin Douglas, a safe owner said that in such tough times it is very important to lock up all your valuables.
Fairchild, however, adds that it is essential for people to buy the right kind of safe. Many people mistakenly, purchase a fire safe which is usually not designed to protect against forced entry.
Fairchild advices people who are thinking of buying a safe to purchase a burglary safe with very thick steel plate, preferably one which is drill resistant. For added protection, people should buy a safe which has locking bolts both at the top and the bottom, and finally should be fixed in their homes by experts.

With seven burglaries in one weekend the police are urging residents to keep their homes safe and secure. The Rossmere and Rift house in Hartlepool was the target of the burglars and the incident took place in the early hours of the weekend.
The police stated that of the seven burglaries that took place, five were a result of homes being left unlocked and could have been prevented if the residents were alert. The stolen items were cash, alcohol, laptops, cigarettes and keys that belonged to the home and the car.
Detective Inspector Lee Rukin clearly stated that if the property was left unlocked then it would only take a few seconds for the burglar to steal from the house. He also said that Christmas was around the corner and the residents should not make mistakes like this as being a victim of burglary during festive season could be even more devastating.
As Christmas is an invitation to burglars the Detective suggested that the residents should lock up their homes and be more alert and attentive. He also reassured the trust of the residents by saying that an operation would be carried out over Christmas that would involve extensive patrolling of the area. The authorities also urged the residents to use security safes to safeguard their belongings.
He concluded by saying that any help from the public would be grateful and those who are caught in this operation would be dealt with as is necessary.

Every business that deals with cash worries about theft and how to avoid it. A drop box or deposit safe can minimize the risk of robbery and loss. They are designed to help motels and hotels, gas stations, retail stores, convenience stores, restaurants, and other cash-based businesses, safely store and secure their money.
Drop safes use front or top loading drop systems. Deposits are made through a bin which places the cash in the interior of the safe as it closes. An anti-fish baffle mechanism prevents anyone from pulling a deposit out of the safe. Multiple people can deposit cash quickly and easily throughout the day without the use of a key or combination. Most drop box safes also have a time delay to discourage robberies, and flush doors and heavy jambs to prevent thieves from using a sledgehammer or a crowbar to open them. There are additional safety features that can also be included, such as pre-drilled anchoring holes, steel plated doors, steel locking bolts, and anti-drill lock plates.
Buying Tips:
A good drop safe should have at least a U.L Group 2 lock. This is an Underwriters Laboratories Group II label and ensures that the lock has been tested and can withstand at least 5 minutes of a trained professional trying to break in with crowbars, chisels, and other equipment. This also means that only a locksmith is able to change the combination.
You should also make sure that any depository safe you use has a minimum steel door thickness of 1/2″ and a minimum steel body thickness of ¼”. Some manufacturers try to cut their production costs by using sheet model or other types that are listed as “composite” but these are not as strong as steel and not as resistant to robberies.
If you are using a drop box safe for your restaurant make sure it is bolted down with epoxy anchor bolts, this will ensure that the safe bolts are not compromised by water. Also, if you plan to install a drop safe in your vehicle, buy a safe that includes a mounting kit.
There are three main styles of depository safes to choose from, a compact model, single-door model, and a double-door model.
Compact Deposit Safe:
This type of drop box safe is ideal for retail stores or other businesses that need to store cash temporarily. Because of its smaller size, it can be easily stored away from view under a counter. The Protex TC-03C is a depository safe that offers maximum security in a compact size.
Single Door Deposit Safe:
Drop safes with electronic locks offer up to 1,000,000 possible combinations and include a continuous locking lug on the hinge side for greater protection. The Protex TC-O1E Heavy Duty Drop Safe is an example of this type of safe. It also has a spring-loaded relocker to make sure your safe stays locked during a robbery. A relocker is a hardened pin that is triggered during an attack and cannot be retracted without hours of drilling.
Double Door (Dual Compartment) Deposit Safe:
This type of drop safe is best for long-term storage of cash for any business. Its dual compartments allow for two security levels. Access can be granted to employees to coinage in the bottom compartment while cash in the top compartment remains secure. The Protex FDD-3214 Dual Compartment Depository Safe offers 3 live locking bolts in each door, as well as a spring-loaded relocker, wrong-try penalty lockout, and an internal dead-bar.
A robbery can happen at any time to any business and the best prevention is to be prepared. A drop safe can be a simple, yet effective way to keep your money safe.
